Why There Is A Hall Of Fame
Before there were over 6200 boys, girls, men and women members of US Hockey in Missouri, there were a handful of people trying to teach a handful of boys how to ice skate and the right way to hold a hockey stick. Before there were ice hockey teams from St Louis regularly competing for and winning National Championships, a group of men and women dreamed of forming a local youth league. Before there was a regular pipeline of St. Louis talent feeding the collegiate and junior hockey leagues throughout North America, someone cared enough to share their time and effort with groups of children that had never seen a hockey puck. Before generations of St. Louis families grew up with ice hockey being a passion, someone cared enough to share their love of the game.
Whether you remember skating at St. Louis Country Club at 6:00 a.m. or your history begins with driving your son or daughter to a 7:45 a.m. game at East Alton, you love the sport. Maybe it was playing against Delta at Winterland, blocking a shot at Immerfrost or just last week at drop-in hockey at St. Peters, wherever and whenever, you loved being part of the game, it is your game. It is our game, too.
I am asking you to join me in recognizing and showing our appreciation for those special individuals that paved the way and those whose contributions continue to be the lifeblood of the St. Louis Ice Hockey community. I am asking you to join me in supporting the new St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame.
The St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame was created with the mission of honoring and celebrating those who support, promote and expand amateur hockey throughout the St. Louis region while demonstrating and living the values of leadership, sportsmanship, fairness and integrity.
From over a hundred candidates, the inaugural class of inductees includes David Bates, Charlie Busenhart, Tom K. Hurster, Herman Kriegshauser, Eddie Olsen and Bud Stege. Whether as a player, coach, organizer or referee, these individuals set the standard for those that followed. Without some of them, there might have never been the success ice hockey has enjoyed in St. Louis.
The Nomination Process
No individual shall be nominated in more than three consecutive years. In the event that an individual or group has been nominated for three consecutive years and has not been voted an Honoree to the Hall of Fame, that individual shall not be eligible to be nominated again for two consecutive nomination periods thereafter.
Nominations by non-Board members shall be made in writing and in a format consistent with the specifications and dates set forth by the Board from time to time.
The Selection Process
In order to be selected as an Honoree, each individual or group must receive an affirmative vote of at least three-fourths of the voting membership of the Board.
In the event that any Board member is related by birth or by marriage or is at that time an employer, employee, or business partner of a nominee, such Board member shall disclose such relationship to the Board prior to any vote for selection to the Hall of Fame.
All voted for selection to the Hall of Fame are final and shall not be subject to appeal by a member or non-member.
